Rep. Paul Evans Moves to Install Kate Brown’s Cronies on Salem-Keizer School Board

Extreme liberal groups and politicians think they can get away with anything in Oregon, and they are trying to do the same in our communities.

Last week, Democrat Representative Paul Evans announced legislation that would stage a radical takeover of the Salem-Keizer School District. No doubt this would lead to other Marion and Polk school districts in time. If passed, his bill would give Governor Kate Brown the power to appoint half the members of the school board!

In his letter to Salem-Keizer School Board Chair, Dr. Satya Chandragiri, Rep. Evans threatened the board for having cracked down on verbal harassment at school board meetings, claiming the vote constrained “the ability of the people to have a voice….” He went even further: “Your actions manifest the exact fears and frustrations long held by members of historically disadvantaged and underrepresented people….”

Evans’ position is odd considering the Oregon House of Representatives currently does not allow members of the public into the legislative process on any significant level. Further, it is Evans who is an old white man chastising the leadership of a minority school board leader who has been chair for less than 6 months after taking over a divided board.

If Evan’s legislation is passed into law, Governor Kate Brown will be able to appoint half the members of the school board, effectively ending local control of school board policy.

Rep. Evans lives in Monmouth, well outside the Salem-Keizer School District.
