FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Marion+Polk First PAC Applauds Salem-Keizer School Board on Adoption of Election Reform Proposal

Salem, Ore--Tonight, the Salem-Keizer School Board adopted a modified resolution to make a more equitable election system for future elections, starting in 2023.

Marion+Polk First PAC opposed the original resolution, No. 202021-3, before it was amended to take effect after implementing a process to seek extensive public input as required by law, including multiple town halls and election experts.

As passed, Resolution No. 202021-3 will ensure that, before the 2023 Salem-Keizer School Board election, the district will establish a new, more equitable election process after thorough research and public involvement.

The original, unamended proposal was put forward by a current candidate in the May election of this year after being proposed in January with little involvement from the entire school district community.

"We are thankful the Board did not meddle in the ongoing election only a couple of weeks before ballots print," said Marion+Polk First PAC spokesman David Kilada. "Now the Salem-Keizer School Board can pursue a truly equitable solution for Oregon's second largest school district."
